GolfStar Heads South To Launch First Facility In Iberian Peninusla

GolfStar, Northern Europe’s largest Multi Course Owner and Operator which operates 19 golf courses across 13 facilities, has announced its first expansion project on the Iberian Peninsula; GolfStar Cambrils.

The facility has a 9-hole Pitch & Putt course, 20 bay driving range, short game area and a golf clubhouse situated within the grounds of Hotel Mas Gallau. The 40 room hotel is locally well-known for its high quality Mediterranean restaurant, wedding venue and event space.

“GolfStar Cambrils is the first step in GolfStar’s future growth on the Iberian Peninsula, and fits perfectly inline with our overall vision of growing outside of our home Nordic region”, says Tony Trigell, CEO of GolfStar's parent company Caddies Europe AB.

“Our ambition going forward is to take over the management and operation of more facilities in several major golf regions on the Iberia peninsula, the creation of a new Spanish company and HQ at GolfStar Cambrils will help us as we put into motion the strategic growth plan.”

Stefan Brikell, market director, and incoming CEO of GolfStar in Spain added: “At GolfStar Cambrils one of our focus areas is to create a Golf Academy that will engage with the local community and highlight the desire of GolfStar to make golf more accessible and get more people playing. In Spain, golf is an expensive sport in comparison to Sweden and very few people play the game as a percentage of population, only 0.56 per cent. In many areas of Spain the focus is on attracting green fee players from other countries rather than developing golfers in the local area. Our ambition here in Cambrils is to do both.

“The facility is strategically located, one hour south of Barcelona and is easily accessible from Cambrils, Reus, Salou, and Tarragona. Of course, our goal is also to create added value for our members in Sweden. Being able to now offer very attractive stay & play packages with accommodation at Hotel Mas Gallau, play and practice opportunities at GolfStar Cambrils and other golf courses in the vicinity such as Infinitum Golf, Gaudí Golf and Costa Daurada Golf Club is fantastic,” Brikell continues.

“Our year one investments will give the facility a welcome improvement which will elevate the golf experience on course and around the clubhouse, which will receive a major facelift both inside and out. We will create an environment where everyone will feel comfortable golfer or non-golfer, with the desire to contribute to the social interaction both before, during and after the game, in the same way as the local padel clubs do in Spain.”
