The Association of Turfgrass Professionals Ireland (ATPI) has announced the appointment of Damien Connolly CCM as its new General Manager, effective from May 2026.

Connolly brings more than 20 years of experience within the golf industry, having worked across club operations, management, consultancy and industry education throughout Ireland. His career has included consultancy work with mygolfGroup, alongside previous club support and education roles with the Confederation of Golf in Ireland (CGI), the forerunner to Golf Ireland.

Throughout his career, Connolly has worked closely with golf clubs, management teams, committees and volunteers, developing a strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing clubs and industry professionals. His work has focused on governance, business planning, member engagement, education and operational development.

In his new role with ATPI, he will work closely with members, industry partners and the Executive Committee to support the continued development and promotion of the turfgrass profession across Ireland.

Speaking following his appointment, Connolly said: “I am delighted to be joining ATPI and looking forward to working closely with members, partners and the wider industry. Turfgrass professionals play a hugely important role within golf and sport, often working behind the scenes to create and maintain the facilities that so many people enjoy every day.

“I would not have had the career I’ve had in this industry without the hard work and commitment of the teams working at clubs throughout the country. They provide the facilities and environments where people can spend time with family and friends, unwind, relax and create memorable experiences. I have a huge appreciation for the work they do and I’m excited to support the profession in this new role.

“There is a great opportunity to continue building awareness of the profession, strengthen member support and education opportunities, and further develop relationships across the wider sports turf industry.”

ATPI President Mark Bewley welcomed the appointment, highlighting Connolly’s broad industry experience and commitment to professional development.
